Royal Jelly
Royal jelly has been purported to have many actions; most of them, however, are unsubstantiated. Royal jelly has been shown in animal studies to help prevent the cholesterol-elevating effect of nicotine and to lower blood cholesterol levels. Human studies have confirmed that royal jelly can lower cholesterol levels. It is antibacterial in test tube studies. Other preliminary evidence suggests it may promote wound healing and have moderate antitumor activity. Where is it found? Worker bees make royal jelly, which is fed to the queen. Other larvae are also fed royal jelly until they begin to mature; only the queen is fed it throughout her life.
In what conditions might royal jelly be supportive?
- atherosclerosis
- high cholesterol
